1. The Native American Club Annual Pow-Wow is a daylong celebration with music, dancing and Native American crafts. January

2. The Mary of Puddin Hill Easter Open House is eggs-actly the place to enjoy chocolate sculptures, Easter decorations, and tours of the bakery. March

3. The Antique Car Swap is a flea market for classic autos. You'll find vintage parts and accessories and antique auto memorabilia. April

4. Appetite Alley offers a taste of Greenville. Right after the annual DrugFree Greenville Walkathon, The Alley invites hungry visitors to sample the menus of local restaurants while enjoying live entertainment at Market Square in downtown Greenville. April

5. The annual Armed Forces Day Fly-In at Majors Field Municipal Airport includes the largest display of military and civilian aircraft in northeast Texas. May

6. Audie Murphy Days honors WWII's most decorated soldier who was born and raised in Hunt County. Hosted by the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum, home of a permanent exhibit about Murphy. June

7. Rally Round Greenville is a "wheel celebration"! The OmniSYS Cotton Patch Classic Bike Rally & Race draws cyclists from all over North Texas. The Mini Grand Prix pits locally-sponsored mini race cars against each other in a sprint around a downtown Grand Prix track. The two races are joined by a festival full of activities for young and old.

8. Halloween on the Square is "spooktacular" family fun. Downtown stores and offices offer goodies for trick-or-treaters. Don't miss the costume contests, games, and entertainment on the downtown square for safe Halloween fun provided by the City of Greenville Main Street Program. October

9. Light Magic dazzles the city with holiday lighting and decorations on homes, schools, churches, businesses, and shopping areas during the month of December. Many neighborhoods decorate around a particular holiday theme. December

10. Marchers dressed in Victorian finery illuminate their route in the Historic Park Street Lantern Parade. Take a Horse-Drawn Wagon Ride to ooh and aah at the spectacular lighting displays all along the street. December

10 Historical Tidbits

1. The Chamber office occupies the site of Greenville's Carnegie Library, built in 1904.

2. As the county seat, Greenville has had 7 courthouses-from a log cabin to the current 1929 limestone building.

3. Joe Dimaggio and the New York Yankees lost an exhibition game to the Greenville Majors at Majors Stadium in 1949.

4. The King Opera House in downtown Greenville drew famous performers from all over the world, including the Marx Brothers.

5. The first woman to hold an elective public office in Texas was Lallie P. Carlisle, who served as Hunt County Clerk in 1921.

6. Air Force One, the Boeing 747 that flies the President of the United States, was outfitted at E-Systems (now L-3 Communications) in Greenville. There are actually two identical planes.

7. The Thomas family of Greenville produced 3 professional football players: Jimmy (San Francisco 49ers), Earl (Houston Oilers), and Mike (Washington Redskins).

8. The Caddo Indians once camped in the bottomlands of the Sabine River near Greenville.

9. The city's first swimming pool opened in 1915.

10. Elvis Presley performed at the Municipal Auditorium with the Louisiana Hayride Jamboree on October 5, 1955.
