Big Bend Resort & Adventures is also near the town of Terlingua, which was once a prosperous mining village built during the height of the old west in the mid-1880s. In 1922, forty percent of the nation's quicksilver was produced here. By the 1940's, Terlingua was a ghost town. Since then, Terlingua has gained notoriety by attracting over 10,000 visitors to their annual International Chili Cookoff.

Day trip excursions can be arranged through Big Bend Overland Tours, offering customized tours to remote destinations in the Big Bend National Park, including forays into Big Bend State Park. MOON VALLEY: Located on private property, explore the area that NASA astonauts trained for the first moonwalk. Appox 3 hrs.
SANTS ELENA LOOP: View 1500 feet canyon walls, eat lunch at the historic Castolon Store, visit the ruins of the old Sam Nail Ranch. Appox. 5 hrs.
SAUCEDO/SOLITARIO TOUR: Visit what was a true Texas ranching empire. This was a 300,000 acre working ranch before being turned into a State Park. Visit the old ranch head quarter, and then travel on to the heart of the Solitario at Tres Papalotes. Appox 10 hrs.

Directions to Big Bend Resort & Adventures
From Alpine, TX:
Take Route 118 South and follow signs for "Study Butte" and Big Bend National Park. We are 80 miles South at the junction of Routes 118 and 170.
From Marathon, TX:
Take Route 385 South through Big Bend National Park to Panther Junction. Turn right and follow the road out of the Park into Route 118. We are located at the junction of Routes 118 and 170.
