A city of warm hospitality, Gainesville

Cities to Visit: Gainesville, Texas

From antiques to zebras, Gainesville offers a rich heritage, a colorful mix of places to see and the warmest hospitality south of the Red River.

The 85-acre Leonard Park hosts a municipal pool, baseball diamonds, playgrounds and a pavilion, along with the Frank Buck Zoo, which greets 87,000 visitors per year and is the only free zoo of its size in a 200-mile area.

From the hardiest shopper to the casual window shopper, Gainesville offers a wide variety from quaint antique malls and sophisticated art galleries to apparel boutiques, western wear, and Prime Outlets - Gainesville outlet shopping with over 80 shops and eateries and an RV park. Butterfield Stage, housed in the former 1914 Carnegie Library, provides theatrical entertainment from touring productions to youth theatre classes.

Lakes, golf courses and cycle trails are abundant. Lake Texoma, Ray Roberts Lake and Moss Lake offer excellent fishing, boating and water skiing. The Gainesville Municipal and Turtle Hill Golf Courses present the perfect opportunity to take in a round and enjoy North Texas. Dirt trails along the Red River in Bulcher tantalize the cycle and ATV enthusiast.

Horse ranches span much of Gainesville's perimeter, many of which are open to the public. The Gainesville Civic Center, rodeo grounds, fairgrounds, courthouse square and Santa Fe Depot provide entertainment and events year around.
