The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum is the largest history
museum in Texas. Stories of courage, of hardship, of victory and
defeat...stories of life are told through a variety of interpretive
exhibits.
As part of its 75th anniversary celebration, PPHM serves as the
only Texas venue for the blockbuster exhibit featuring the man
who won the west. Samuel Colt: Arms, Art and
Invention, an exhibition
of unsurpassed historic firearms and related works of art, presents
a broader view of this unusually influential figure in nineteenth
century America May 24 through September 1,
2008, in the Harrington
Changing Gallery.
Meet the man behind the gun in this exhibit featuring Colt's innovations
in manufacturing and marketing that changed the way business was
done in America. Combining exquisite examples of firearms, paintings,
broadsides, and photography, this exhibit will give you insight
into the heart and soul behind this revolutionary figure.
The Museum is located just 15 minutes south of Amarillo on I-27,
on the campus of West Texas A&M University at 2503 Fourth Avenue,
one block east of US 87, in Canyon, Texas.
The location of Canyon, Texas allows almost identical access to
major areas of the Southwest, Mountain West and Plains as well
as Texas. The Museum is serviced by I-27 South of I-40, 16 miles
south of Amarillo, Texas. Amarillo is serviced by Amarillo International
Airport.
