Slip off bustling I-35 midway between Waco and Austin, Texas, and let the Village of Salado whisk you back in time. Visit once, and it will become one of your favorite Texas escapes. The recently incorporated village of 2,350 people is famous for its laid back atmosphere laced with the magic of days gone by. Innkeepers, restaurateurs, artists, shopkeepers, retirees, and long-time residents give the village its unique and delightful character.

"Salado" is an Indian word describing the town's spring-fed creek. The creek served as a stopping point for stagecoaches and Chisholm Trail cattle drives. You can still see the ruts from the wagon wheels permanently cut into the creek bed.

Salado is best known for great Texas shopping in more than 100 shopping venues including ladies' and men's clothiers, fine jewelery stores, home decor and furniture stores, garden shops, antique stores, gift shops and numerous fine art galleries. Salado is an artist community with more than 100 working artists residing in the village and vicinity.

Known for its natural and architectural beauty, Salado is rich in Texas history and southern hospitality and charm. Relax over leisurely meals at nationally recognized restaurants, get in some golf, theater or fishing or just visit with the locals. Salado is also an ideal setting for reunions, weddings, business meetings, and retreats.
