Located in historic downtown Nacogdoches, the first town in Texas, the landmark Hotel Fredonia has garnered several awards that include Best Hotel since 2010 and Large Business of the Year 2012. Hotel Fredonia began with Jack McKinney, who was born in The Banita Hotel in Nacogdoches.  As co-founder of McKinney Drilling Company in 1940, and after many years of travel, McKinney concluded that his hometown needed a first class hotel to accommodate business travelers, vacationers and those seeking the solace of a resort.

McKinney shared his vision with fellow Nacogdoches residents, and through the sale of stocks, the ground breaking for Hotel Fredonia was in May 1954.  A mere 11 months later, Nacogdoches celebrated the grand opening on April 1, 1955, and made headlines for being an air-conditioned hotel.
