Travis College Hill Historic District NATIONAL REGISTER CELEBRATION 3rd Annual Home Tours

Apr 22, 2017

The Travis College Hill Historic District in Garland will celebrate its new listing on the National Register of Historic Places in a special ceremony on Saturday, April 22. The event will be part of the 3rd annual Travis College Hill Historic Home Tour. The home tour will be from noon to 4 p.m.; the ceremony and plaque-unveiling will be at 2 p.m. Travis College Hill is situated between Avenues B and D on South 11th Street near downtown Garland, Texas. A "Tell Your Own Story" interactive booth will be part of this year's event. Guests are invited to relate their personal stories of their own growing-up neighborhoods and homes and what has become of them. Travis College Hill consists of a two-block area in historic downtown Garland on the 300-400 blocks of South 11th Street. The area was platted in 1913 and represents an intact, extant enclave of Craftsman-influenced bungalows. Several dwellings were built in the 1910s and 1920s. Admission is $10 for adults ($5 for children ages 3-12, under age 3 free). Proceeds benefit Garland Area Habitat for Humanity, Running 4 Clean Water, Friedrich's Ataxia Research Alliance, and Friends of Garland's Historic Magic 11th Street. Tickets will be on sale at the event.
