Witte Museum - South Texas Heritage Center

Grit, Guts, Gumption.
See what it took to settle South Texas.

It’s time South Texas reclaimed the legendary story of this wild and vivid land, and the Witte Museum does just that with the Robert J. and Helen C. Kleberg South Texas Heritage Center.  This untamed country was the birthplace of ranching empires that continue today and was the crucible from which emerged the American Cowboy from his Vaquero forbearers.

This 20,000 square-foot, two-story building that incorporates the historic Pioneer Hall, serves as a permanent home for the Witte’s South Texas collections, exhibitions and public programs, combined with the latest museum technology, to trace the legendary history of South Texas.

Throughout the Center, stories of the people who lived in this remarkable time bring the past to life, accentuating the artifacts by showing how people truly lived in the early settlements of South Texas.
