Chambers Wild

ChambersWild is The Wild Side of Chambers County, Texas

Grab your gear and let’s go into the Wild Side of Chambers County to fish, cycle, camp, bird, hunt, paddle, or maybe hike! This is a unique area on the Upper Texas Coast – a nature lover’s dream destination for everything from waters sports to wildlife photography. There are miles of beautiful coastline, fresh and salt water, coastal marsh, ancient swamps, mature woodlands, bayous and channels in the county – not to mention a boatload of small town hospitality. Chambers County has all the resources for a great outdoor adventure on the Upper Texas Coast, with none of the heavy traffic or big industry to distract you.

Snuggled between the Houston metropolis to the west and Beaumont in the east, north and south of Interstate 10 - are diverse county parks with water access and camping, small towns with full time services and amenities, federal and state wildlife management areas like the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, Wallisville Project, Candy Abshier WMA, Trinity River, the Gulf of Mexico, East Galveston Bay and our own Trinity Bay. And, as a result of the location and wonderful habitat - wineries, “U-pick” farms, farmer’s markets, rice fields, guides & outfitters, hunting/fishing camps and wildlife nature ranches are waiting for you. So pick a hotel, motel, RV park or camping site and settle in for a visit.

Year round events celebrate our natural resources – The Gatorfest, Rice Festival, Great Texas Birding Classic, hunting & fishing events, fund raising walks and runs, The Bike Around the Bay and dozens of small town festivals for family entertainment. One of the top events year round is our excellent birding,  with sites like the Anahuac Refuge, Big Pine woods, Cypress Swamp and access to High Island – all  popular with top birders from around the country.

The Wild Side has its historic side too - the first shots of the Texas Revolution were fired at Anahuac, and the Turtle Bayou Resolutions were written in response to dissatisfactions of the Colonists. These two major events in Chambers County, from 1831-1835, helped to precipitate the Texas Revolution.  Historic sites, museums, cemeteries and Markers are evident throughout the county.
