Discover Texas History. Visit the San Jacinto Monument and Museum and discover the site where Texas won independence from Mexico on April 21, 1836. Rising 570 feet above flat coastal plain, the monument commemorates the Battle of San Jacinto. Across from the monument is the 95-year-old Battleship Texas, the last dreadnought in existence in the world.

Play some great Texas Coast Golf. Winding through a natural bayside setting of stately trees and bayou-fed waterways, La Porte Bay Forest Golf Course has been acclaimed in the top 20 municipal courses in Texas.

Catch a wave! - Little Cedar Bayou Park features a swimming pool with 6-foot-deep wave action! The park also offers sports fields and picnic facilities.

Go the beach. Visit the 2,000 linear feet of beach front play area at Sylvan Beach Park. The 32-acre park also features a fishing pier, launch ramp, playground and picnic areas.

Try the fried alligator at the Monument Inn restaurant. For those who'd rather not eat reptile, try their famous all-you-can-eat seafood feast.

Catch a festival. The Annual Sylvan Beach Crawfish Jam is in April, Christmas on Main Street is in early December and there are evening concerts at Five Points Town Plaza in the Spring and Fall.

Take a Walk Down Memory Lane- The Sylvan Beach Depot Museum, managed by the La Porte Bay Area Heritage Society, features historical photographs, artifacts, and information from La Porte’s colorful history as the “Coney Island of the South.” Museum is open every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on weekdays by appointment.
