Things to Do in Rockwall

Rockwall is a thriving town 25 miles east of downtown Dallas that has a little something for everyone. Rent a kayak and paddle in the picturesque Lake Ray Hubbard, browse the charming boutique shops in historic Downtown Rockwall, or take in one of the many concerts at The Harbor Rockwall. These are just a few of the top things to do in Rockwall, so read on to find out more about what this captivating city has to offer.

Attend a Concert in the Live Music Capital of North Texas

The fair city of Rockwall has made a name for itself as a charming lakeside retreat, but its music scene has really set it apart. After all, Rockwall is known as the Live Music Capital of North Texas – a designation taken seriously in these parts. How can this town claim such an illustrious title? From May through September, you can enjoy at least three nights of concerts in Rockwall. Head to The Harbor Rockwall for spectacular lake views and music from tribute bands on Thursday during the Concert by the Lake series. Then on Friday and Saturday night, bring a picnic to Downtown Rockwall and listen to the tunes of the San Jacinto Plaza Music Series, which wraps up at the end of September.

These are just two of many live music events here. Check out our list of the town’s annual events for more information on the other concerts and festivals that make Rockwall the Live Music Capital of North Texas.

Explore Downtown Rockwall

Upscale boutique shops, award-winning restaurants, and a hearty helping of small-town character are exactly what you’ll find in Downtown Rockwall. The heart of the downtown district is the historic Rockwall County Courthouse, a tan-brick structure built in 1941 that features all the understated flair of art deco design. Rockwall’s courthouse is surrounded by beautifully restored 19th-century storefronts that you can browse at your leisure. Wander among the displays of luxury women’s clothing and accessories at No9 Couture or Hazel & Olive, or shop for that special accent piece at Expressions Home Decor or Worker Bee Studio.

Have a laid-back experience with down-home food with a twist at Book Club Café, the best wood-fired pizza and wine at Zanata, street tacos and a beer at Charlie’s, the freshest seafood in Rockwall at Pier 101, or the best upscale burgers at Wells Cattle Co, you really cannot go wrong.

Downtown Rockwall is home to numerous shops and boutiques for you to spend the day shopping or browsing while waiting for a table at one of their great restaurants. From high-end clothing to locally themed knick-knacks, Downtown Rockwall has it all! If you’re looking to indulge in a little retail therapy or a fantastic meal, Downtown Rockwall is the place to be.

Along with all the exceptional shopping and dining, Downtown Rockwall has an art gallery that showcases the works of Texans (Uptown Downtown Art Gallery and Studio), as well as the Rockwall Community Playhouse.

Hang Out at The Harbor Rockwall

For even more fantastic shopping and dining, plus unbelievable lake views, find your way to The Harbor Rockwall. Perched on the eastern shore of Lake Ray Hubbard just minutes from Downtown Rockwall, The Harbor is known as one of the premier entertainment districts in the Dallas area. Stroll along the lakefront walkway and listen to the sounds of bands playing, sit down for a delectable meal at a high-end eatery, or lay out a blanket and enjoy a picnic in The Harbor’s park. Not enough for you? Catch the latest Hollywood epic at the Cinemark 14 movie theater or catch a concert at the on-site amphitheater.

The Harbor Rockwall’s combination of captivating views, fine dining, remarkable shops, and entertainment venues make it a marvelous place to visit if you’re looking for a romantic date spot or a fun place to take your family.

Play in Lake Ray Hubbard

Rockwall’s big neighbor to the west is certainly a sight to behold. Lake Ray Hubbard is 22,000 acres of shimmering blue water surrounded by lush green parks. Its scenic nature is only part of its charm, however. That’s because Lake Ray Hubbard is a massive outdoor playground in addition to being a visual treat. It’s here that you’ll find some of the best catfish and bass fishing in North Texas, and the lake’s calm waters provide the ideal conditions for kayakers and paddle boarders.

The parks that encircle the lake provide plenty of adventures of their own. Work up a sweat on Pecan Grove Park’s one mile of hiking and biking trails, visit the marina and restaurants in Elgin B. Robertson Park, or swim at the beach in Garland’s Windsurf Bay Park. That’s just a sample of what you can do during a day at the lake. To get the full picture, you’ll have to experience Lake Ray Hubbard for yourself.

Enjoy Local Craft Beer and Wine

Delicious craft beer or heavenly wine; how do you choose? In Rockwall, you don’t have to. The downtown area is a short 10-minute drive from a craft brewery and a local winery and vineyard, so it’s easy to visit both places. To sample the complex flavors of an American Blonde Ale or a Hazy IPA, Siren Rock Brewing Company | Destination Craft Brewery is for you. Siren Rock brewery, established in 2017, welcomes beer lovers to its taproom Monday through Sunday to try its extensive range of brews and delicious food. Their taproom is open daily, and they also have a private events space for rent. You name it, they have it all!

Does a glass of cabernet sauvignon sound more appealing to you than a pint of ale? Then giddy on up to San Martino Winery & Vineyards, a well-renowned winery that looks like it would be right at home in the Italian countryside. Visit the winery’s tasting room and try the delicious reds, whites, and sweet wines; or kick your feet up and unwind on the outdoor patio. For the ultimate winery experience, reserve your place in one of the winery’s special dinner events that typically combine San Martino’s wares with meals made from fresh local ingredients.

Regardless of whether you’re a beer or a wine person, you’ll find something to love in Rockwall.
