With four trails, hiking is one of the most popular ways to enjoy the preserve’s diverse environment. Nearly 280 species of birds live or migrate through, including bald eagles and painted buntings. The Bittern Marsh Trail is a 2.1-mile loop that winds through a mature bottomland hardwood forest, marshes and ponds. The 1.2-mile Cottonwood Trail winds past the 1869-built log home providing a taste of pioneer life.

Pitch a tent to spend the night in the center’s campground for a primitive nature experience. The center hosts an abundance of year-round activities, including night hikes, moonlit kayak tours, children’s fishing days and bird-watching tours.

Entry is $5 per person. Fees for other activities. Front gate located at the corner of Jones and Kealy streets, Lewisville, TX, 972.219.7980 or 972.219.3930, LLELA.org
