Brown County Museum of History
Explore the broad and compelling history of Brown County and Central Texas at the Brown County Museum of History. Located within the four-story Old Brown County Jail, which resembles a medieval European castle, the museum features artifacts and photographs dating back to the era of the Plains Indians. Exhibits related to World War II and Camp Bowie, as well as a Kidz Zone with hands-on displays, are part of the museum as well.

Camp Bowie 36th Division Memorial Park
During World War II, Brownwood was home to the largest military training center in Texas, Camp Bowie. Although the camp closed soon after the war ended, it still left an indelible mark on the town that can be seen to this day. The impact, and the service of those who trained at the base, is commemorated at the Camp Bowie 36th Division Memorial Park, located across the street from the Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Tour the 8.71-acre park today and you’ll encounter a variety of military equipment and vehicles used during World War II and beyond, including tanks and artillery pieces.

Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center
Soar down a waterslide, float along a current channel, and escape the summer heat at the Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center. Open during the summer, the center offers a bit of something for swimmers of all ages. Let the youngsters play on the themed tot slide or under the raindrops while you kick back and relax on the zero-entry beach. Fabis Primitive Park
Grab your fishing gear or kayak and travel up to Fabis Primitive Park, an undeveloped 22-acre tract of land off of FM 2125 just north of Brownwood. Wander through a large pecan orchard until you scope out that ideal place on the bank of Pecan Bayou, where you can snag a fish or do some bird watching. Martin & Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum
Marvel at a variety of railroad equipment and memorabilia, photographs, and stories of how the early railroad changed Brownwood and life in America. Located across the street from the Santa Fe Depot and Fred Harvey House, the museum features a mini-train that both adults and children can ride, as well as a children’s play area. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday (except on holidays) throughout the year.

Riverside Park
A disc golf course, hiking trails, boat ramp, and campsites reside within Riverside Park, a sprawling park perched on the bank of Pecan Bayou. The bayou boasts a consistent year-round water level, making it an idyllic spot for boating, swimming, and fishing. Stay the night at one of the campsites and RV spots with Wi-Fi and cable, and make full use of the on-site showers and laundry facilities. The Blanket Museum of History
Dive into the intriguing past of the small town of Blanket at this quaint museum. See an antique Model T Ford, a bay window from a prominent home, old-fashioned surgical tools, and the original safe used in the Blanket State Bank from 1913 to 1966. The Gordon Wood Hall of Champions Museum
Gordon Wood is a Texas sports legend and the winningest high school football coach in the Lone Star State who led the Brownwood Lions to 17 district or co-district championships and seven state titles. Wood’s accomplishments are immortalized in this museum, which showcases memorabilia, playbooks, and videos from his nearly 50-year career.

The Hideout Golf Club & Resort
Verdant greens and rolling fairways sit among thickets of oak trees that provide a spectacular backdrop for this 7,000-yard, 18-hole golf course. Sand traps and ponds add a degree of difficulty to the golf course in Brownwood, which was designed to appeal to both novice and expert golfers.
