Backdoor Theatre

Castaway Cove
The Wichita Falls water park offers an oasis from the summer heat with slides, kid pool, lazy river, and wave pool. Start up a game of sand volleyball on the park court or head to the Lagoon, where you can play water basketball and volleyball. Jenny to Jet Exhibit
If you’re a fan of historical aviation, check out the Jenny to Jet Exhibit at the Wichita Falls Regional Airport. Discover the history of Call Field, a World War I U.S. Army Air Corps training camp, through displays of uniforms, equipment, and multimedia displays. You’ll also find the first U.S. military training plane and a modern jet that is a current training plane for the armed forces.

Kell House Museum
One of the oldest and most historic homes in Wichita Falls is today a museum that displays not only original items of the Kell Family, but also the distinctive 1909 architecture of local builders. Guided tours are available every day but Wednesday, when the museum is closed.

Kemp Center for the Arts
As the home of The Arts Council and the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, the Kemp Center is the heart of arts and culture in Wichita Falls. Five indoor galleries and an outdoor space host rotating exhibits and can also be rented for weddings, meetings, and receptions. The Center is also the place to catch annual events like the Arts Alive! Home and Garden Festival and Cowboy True, plus kids’ camps and adult classes in art instruction.

Lake Arrowhead State Park
Go for a splash in a sprawling lake; hike scenic trails; and fish for catfish, crappie, and bass from a pier. These are just a few of the adventures that await at Lake Arrowhead State Park, a natural oasis situated just south of Wichita Falls. Hike and ride horseback on five miles of trails that weave throughout about 300 acres, explore Lake Arrowhead by boat, and play through a disc golf course. Then stay under the stars at the campsites, some of which come with electricity or water.

Lucy Park
This 178-acre park on the Wichita River is home to the River Bend Nature Center, one of the city’s most popular outdoor spots. Other park attractions include a swimming pool, sports courts, picnic tables and grills, and a disc golf course. Visit Lucy Park to make the one-mile trek to The Falls, the man-made waterfall that replaced the original, now-lost Wichita Falls.

Maniac’s Mansion
Classic arcade games and a cereal bar. You’ll find this unusual combination at Maniac’s Mansion, a vintage arcade with nostalgia-inducing games and plenty of cereals, as well as a collection of sodas, games, and collectibles that you can admire. The arcade even hosts fighting tournaments and other gaming events at its location in downtown Wichita Falls, which you can find out more about on its Facebook page.

Museum of North Texas History
Native Americans and the oil and gas community are each major facets of this region’s history, and two of the permanent exhibits at this museum deal with their impact on North Texas. Other permanent exhibits include the collection of military items of a local resident; classic cowboy hats, ranching gear, and the remains of an old post office in Heritage Hall; and antique medical equipment.

P’s Crazy Car Museum
Admire more than 40 vintage cars, trucks, tractors, and other vehicles as you witness the evolution of automobiles across different eras at this classic car museum in Wichita Falls. Autos on display include a late 1930’s race car and a 1941 Lincoln Zephyr. Like what you see? All vehicles are available for purchase, giving you the chance to go home with an authentic piece of automotive history.

Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum

River Bend Nature Center
Nature lovers need look no further than River Bend Nature Center, Wichita Falls’ outstanding home for creatures that walk, crawl, swim, and fly. From the amphibians and arachnids in the learning center and butterflies in the conservatory and Peyton’s Place to foxes, raccoons, and opossums in the 17 acres of wetlands, it’s like a mini-zoo with a tiny admission price.

Wichita Falls MPEC

Wichita Falls Museum of Art at MSU
Focusing on art from the North Texas and Southern Oklahoma region, WFMA is an elegant venue on the campus of Midwestern State overlooking Sikes Lake. Of the more than 3,000 pieces, most are paper lithographs, etchings, mezzotints, drawings, watercolors, and pastels by American artists of the last half-century. Wichita Theatre Performing Arts Center
With more than a century’s worth of experience providing theater arts to the people of Wichita Falls, the Wichita Theatre is the city’s answer to Broadway.
