Attractions in the Canyon Lake Area

Located an hour north of San Antonio, the Canyon Lake Area is deservedly known as the Water Recreation Capital of Texas for a good reason. Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre
Set in a beautifully restored 1940’s movie theater, the Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre presents concerts, musicals, recitals, and more from October through May. A preview of upcoming shows and ticket purchases are available on the venue’s website.

Canyon Lake
Made up of more than 8,300 acres of pristine blue water, Canyon Lake is a spectacular place to get away. Soak up the sun on a sandy swimming beach, rent a pontoon boat or jet ski, or explore the lake’s secluded areas by kayak or paddleboard. The lake also has excellent catfish and white and striped bass fishing, so make sure to bring your bait and tackle box.

Canyon Lake Gorge
Created from a major flood in the summer of 2002, Canyon Lake Gorge is a geological wonder. Marvel at 110-million-year-old dinosaur tracks, take in a stunning lagoon surrounded by layers of limestone from the cretaceous period, and watch cascading waterfalls. You’ll need to schedule a tour before visiting, which you can do on the gorge’s website.

Canyon Overlook Park
Located at the dam on Canyon Lake’s eastern shoreline, Canyon Overlook Park serves up one of the best views of the lake. Hike the park’s 0.6-mile trail that takes you to the water’s edge, a journey on which you might see an abundance of birds and wildlife.

Centex Wing – Commemorative Air Force (CAF)
Take flight in an authentic B-25 from World War II and get an up-close look at vintage aircraft from that era at the Central Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force in San Marcos. Stroll through the hangar and you’ll encounter such aircraft as a P-39Q Bell Airacobra and a BT-13 Valiant. After regarding the aircraft, step into the museum that showcases World War II artifacts and uniforms.

Lakeside Golf Club
The bucolic charm of the 18-hole course at Lakeside Golf Club in Canyon Lake belies how much it will test your long and short game. Natural Bridge Caverns
Head underground to discover one of Texas’ most spectacular show caves: Natural Bridge Caverns. Choose from one of several guided tours, ranging from the 75-minute Discover Tour to the up to four-hour Adventure Tour, a physically demanding journey that takes you to undeveloped areas of the cave.

The Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country
For a comprehensive journey through the Hill Country’s history, head to The Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country. Home to more than 350 preserved dinosaur tracks, the museum presents many aspects of the region’s past through its exhibits of ancient Native American art, vintage items from the 1800’s through the 1950’s, and antique farm equipment that shows how the first settlers tamed the land.

Whitewater Amphitheater
Situated at a bend in the Guadalupe River just east of Canyon Lake, the Whitewater Amphitheater is an outdoor venue that showcases the talents of some of the top bands around. Past performers include Pat Green, Sublime, Leon Bridges, the Josh Abbott Band, and Willie Nelson.
