Events in Clute

Clute sits in the middle of the bustling Brazosport Area, meaning that nothing is every too far away. This includes many events, such as the Fishin’ Fiesta, Freeport Riverfest, No-Name Festival, Summertime Blues Festival, and the San Jacinto Festival. Yet Clute is home to the second largest event in the area, The Great Texas Mosquito Festival, which was named as America’s wackiest summer festival by TripAdvisor. January

Martin Luther King Celebration Parade
Freeport’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Parade commemorates the memory and legacy of one of America’s most important civil rights leaders. The parade, held in mid-January, starts in downtown Freeport and makes its way to the Freeport Municipal Park.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The St. Patrick's Day parade is one of the longest lasting and most fun traditions in Surfside Beach. The annual event is held on the weekend before or on St. Patrick’s Day. Festivities include a parade starting at City Hall, a social, fundraisers, and a reenactment of the Battle of Fort Velasco. So put on your green and come and join.

Joy Ride Rod Run
Annual Car Show at Freeport Municipal Park.  Large display of classic cars dating back to the 30’s.  Live music, arts and crafts vendors, and much more.

San Jacinto Day Festival
The San Jacinto Day Festival in West Columbia is an annual event that celebrates the battle that earned Texas its freedom from Mexico. West Columbia’s San Jacinto Day Festival, held on the third weekend of April, includes a barbecue cook-off, carnival rides, a trade day featuring commercial food and craft vendors, a petting zoo, and much more.

Freeport Riverfest
Great barbecue and a diverse set of events and entertainment comprise Freeport Riverfest, a two-day festival held in late April. The festival began more than 20 years ago, when decorated shrimping boats would parade up and down the river while the community would gather to wish them a safe journey and a good harvest. Today, Freeport Riverfest includes a barbecue cook-off, motorcycle show, sailboat regatta, three-on-three basketball tournament, and a beer garden.

Texas Gulf Coast Arts Festival
More than 100 artists gather at the Texas Gulf Coast Arts Festival in mid-May to show and sell their pieces, including wooden furniture, photographs, paintings, and jewelry. Along with the artists, the festival also has live music performances, hands-on art activities for the kids, and plenty of delicious food to savor.

No Name Festival
Enjoy family-friendly entertainment at the No-Name Festival in Brazoria. A parade, carnival rides, barbecue cook-off, craft show, and much more are part of this mid-June festival.

Fishin’ Fiesta
A youth and adult fishing competition is the foundation of the Fishin’ Fiesta in Freeport. This five-day annual event, held in early July, features a barbecue cook-off, 5K run, domino tournament, fiesta queen pageant, and a fireworks display, along with the fishing tournament.

Great Texas Mosquito Festival
The Great Texas Mosquito Festival, Clute’s hallmark event, is a quirky three-day extravaganza that features concerts, a Mosquito Chase 5K Run, horseshoe and washer tournament, mosquito legs and calling contests, a carnival, and an International Barbeque Cookers Association-sanctioned barbecue and fajita cook-off. Tickets are available at the gate the day of the festival, held the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday in July.

September

Summertime Blues Festival
Bikes and Blues Festival in Downtown Freeport. There will be live music on multiple stages, arts and crafts and food vendors, and many contests-such as Ugly Dog, Daisy Dukes, Arm Wrestling Contest, Watermelon Spitting and much more.

Extreme Hummingbird Extravaganza
Two Saturdays in September each year, join them at the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory to see hummingbirds being banded, adopt a hummingbird, browse the Nature Store, walk the nature trails, or buy a plant to attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

Annual Harvest Fun Fest
Trick or treat yourself to a fun Halloween at Clute’s annual Harvest Fun Fest. Carnival games, a cookie walk, vendors, and a costume contest for children up to 12 years old are a part of the festival.

November

Festival of Lights
Lake Jackson kicks off the holiday season with a family friendly festival for all ages – the annual Festival of Lights is generally held the third Saturday of the month!  Carnival, Breakfast with Santa, non-stop local entertainment, food and craft booths, and Snowland.  Parade of Lights begins at 7:00 p.m. in downtown Lake Jackson. On-lookers get to view more than 60 lighted floats that pass through the downtown area.

December

Christmas in the Park
Held in the Second week of December.  Dance and choir groups, Lighted displays, visits with Santa nightly from 6:30-8:30 PM, Sweet Potato the Clown, Arts And Crafts and Food Vendors, Crackling Fire and Marshmallow Roast. There’s a new attraction every year!
