Shenandoah

With a superb location, accommodations that appeal to both business and leisure travelers, and myriad shopping and dining options, Shenandoah, Texas, is a hidden gem that provides great value to those looking to stay in the North Houston area.

At just over two square miles in size, everything in Shenandoah is easily accessible and convenient. The city has a variety of well-reviewed hotels, nearly 50 restaurants and a variety of shopping and entertainment options available for you to enjoy.

Earlier this year, Metropark Square, Shenandoah’s latest mixed-use development, opened a state-of-the-art AMC 10 with IMAX (the first to open in the Houston area in more than 20 years).  A brand new Urban Air Trampoline Park & Adventure Center will also be opening later this fall in the Sam Moon Center, which is adjacent to Metropark Square.  In September, Metropark Square will be announcing several new restaurants and shops that will be opening in the center later in the year, along with updates about its Hyatt House extended-stay hotel project and 40,000-square-foot Dave & Buster’s, both of which are currently under construction.

If shopping is more your thing, then you need to check out both Portofino and the Sam Moon shopping centers.  Portofino features more than 40 shops and restaurants, including great stores like Nordstrom Rack, PGA Tour Superstore and T.J. Maxx, and the Sam Moon Center features its eponymous woman’s accessories, jewelry and apparel store, Sam Moon Trading Co., along with other value-oriented stores like Tuesday Morning, Once Upon a Child and Plato’s Closet.

On the dining front, Shenandoah’s no slouch either, with nearly 50 restaurants and growing.  Everything from small, locally-owned restaurants to large national chains can be found within our city – that includes everything from affordable quick-service restaurants to high-end, white-linen, steakhouses with James Beard-nominated chefs!  Not too shabby for a city of our petite size.

And, if that weren’t enough, Shenandoah also affords easy access to all the stores, restaurants, and attractions of Conroe and The Woodlands.  Nearly all of The Woodlands’ major attractions, dining and shopping areas are located within a one-three-mile drive of our city hotels, and downtown Conroe is less than ten miles away.  Additionally, we are also less than eight miles north of Old Town Spring and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Spring.  That access and convenience makes Shenandoah the ideal location to base a weekend getaway or extended family vacation.

Finally, should you need some quality “down time,” Shenandoah has you covered.  The city is home to the Aveda Institute, one of the nation’s largest Aveda training campuses.  Here, you can unwind, relax and enjoy a pampering at a fraction of the cost you’d typically pay at a full-service salon.  You need to allow for a little more time as it is a training center; but students are always being supervised by master-level stylists, so you never need worry about the quality.  For a slight investment of time, you can feel doubly good, knowing that you’ll be receiving a quality service at a reduced cost, while helping a student gain practical work experience.

If you’d prefer to spend some of your time outdoors, Shenandoah has an urban trail system that has connectivity to The Woodlands trail system, so you can walk and ride while here.  Additionally, the city is located near a number of scenic natural areas, such as Lake Woodlands and the WG Jones State Forest. At Lake Woodlands, rent a kayak and paddle around the 200-acre lake or try your luck at fishing. While you’re at the WG Jones State Forest, hike on the scenic nature trails that wind between towering pine and oak trees.

Your time in Shenandoah should begin at the state-recognized Visitor Center, which has everything you need to learn about the town. Along with its collection of information from across the state, the Visitor Center has an exhibit dedicated to David Vetter, a Shenandoah native, who was perhaps better known as “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble.”  Staff are happy to assist you with any of your travel-related questions about the area, and you’re sure to find something of interest in their collection of Texas travel collateral to assist you with any future travel planning needs.
