Things to Do in Kingsland/Lake LBJ

With abundant natural beauty, live music, and plenty of waterfront fun, Kingsland/Lake LBJ is the perfect modern escape. Lose the stress of everyday life here in the Highland Lakes region and bask in waterfront dining, golf, shopping, hiking, fishing, boating, and more local attractions around Kingsland and other towns in Burnet and Llano Counties just up the road.

Splish, splash! It’s All About the Lake

Central to the Kingsland experience is beautiful Lake LBJ, a perfect spot for fishing, boating, or simply a lakefront meal overlooking the sunset. This lovely reservoir, formed from the Colorado River in 1950, is surrounded by numerous cabin and vacation rentals that deliver plenty of options for cozy or luxe getaways.

The mild temperatures of central Texas mean you can enjoy boating 12 months out of the year, but summertime is especially lively. Kingsland is home to one of the country’s most unique Fourth of July celebrations, AquaBoom, which features several days of activities including fireworks over the lake.

Experience the Country’s Only Year-Round, Lift-Served Mountain Bike Park

Texas is about big adventures, so it’s no surprise that the Lone Star State is home to the country’s only year-round, lift-served mountain bike park, Spider Mountain. Hop aboard the lift with your bike to reach the mountain’s crest, then select one of nine trails for the ride down. From beginner trails with softer peaks, to more advanced trails with obstacles and switch backs, there’s a fitting experience for the adventurer in you.

Hear Local Bands and Regional Acts in Kingsland’s Live Music Scene

There’s no shortage of live music in Kingsland. Catch live music at numerous casual bars and eateries situated around the lake, including the famed Boat Town Burger Bar, where you can have your meal delivered right to your boat, and Wakepoint LBJ at Lakepoint LBJ, sponsors of the annual Wakepoint Open. Dress casually, grab a bite, a beer, and enjoy the sounds of real Texas musicians.

Stretch Your Legs in Serene State Parks and Trails

The region around Kingsland is filled with parks and trails that inspire visitors to explore the region’s stunning natural beauty. Spend the day at Inks Lake State Park, a popular spot for swimming, boating, fishing, skiing, paddleboarding, and even scuba diving. Overnight camping is possible at 200 campsites and 21 cabins. After a restful night, spend the morning hiking or birding on one of its many hiking trails.

For a spectacular tour of a real cavern, check out Longhorn Cavern State Park, “The National Cave of Texas.” Breathtaking rock formations reveal themselves as visitors embark on guided walking tours through the cavern, which was formed about one million years ago.

Other can’t-miss day trips include Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, a gentle hike in the Hill Country that leads to amazing panoramic views; Colorado Bend State Park, home to the majestic, 65-foot Gorman Falls waterfall; and Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge.

Kingsland’s Retail Scene is a Pickers Paradise

Pickers rave about the variety of vintage and quality thrift stores. For local art and handmade crafts, check out artist collective, Kingsland House of Arts and Crafts. Explore multiple booths and bring home original signed works and one of kind goods. Boutiques to lake accessories such as T-shirts, bathing suits and paddle boards, are all around Kingsland.
