San Antonio River Walk Spring & Summer Events

The iconic San Antonio River Walk is the heart of the Alamo City. Over 15 million people visit her each year to dine, dance, drink, and recreate while soaking in the beauty, history, and culture of our diverse community. Spend the day, night, or week with us and you will have no shortage of things to do. Year-round special events punctuate the ongoing fun with something going on every month. Many parades and special events are free to enjoy!

January

Winter River Walk Artisan Show
Find one-of-a-kind treasures made by local artisans. Vendors display and sell beautiful handmade merchandise along the San Antonio River Walk. Artisans and works vary by show but usually include pottery, textiles, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, beadwork, and more.

Mardi Gras River Walk Artisan Show
Over 40 artists display and sell their beautiful handmade merchandise along the San Antonio River Walk. Artisans and works vary by show but usually include pottery, textiles, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, beadwork, and more.

Mardi Gras Festival & River Parade
A procession of decorated river floats transforms the River Walk into a floating Mardi Gras celebration. Krewes of costumed revelers and live entertainment celebrate San Antonio style. Enjoy live music, entertainment, and food vendors. Come dressed in festive masks, costumes, and beads. Admission is free.

Sunday JazzFest
Enjoy a day of smooth jazz on the River Walk on the Arneson River Theatre stage. Admission is free. Food and drink will be available for a fee.


March

St. Patrick’s River Walk Artisan Show
Experience the beauty of the San Antonio River Walk at the Artisan Show by shopping over 40 handmade artisan booths, including pottery, textiles, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, beadwork, and more. Artisans may differ at each Artisan Show.

Dyeing the River Green
Each year since 1968 the River Walk is magically transformed into the River Shannon through 25 gallons of eco-friendly green dye. The transformation is fun to watch while sitting outdoors along a café or bar patio. A bagpiper plays on the dye boat as the river becomes a beautiful emerald, green color. Free viewing along the entire 2 ½ mile downtown portion of the River Walk.

St. Patrick’s Festival & River Parade
Dating back to 1968, this parade is organized as a joint project by Visit San Antonio – The San Antonio River Walk and the Harp & Shamrock Society of Texas. Enjoy a procession of Irish-themed floats filled with Irish entertainment that can be viewed from anywhere on the parade route. Several bagpipers will grace the floats along with other entertainers. Enjoy cold beverages and Irish foods Beer is sold at the Arneson River Theatre along with Irish and other ethnic foods. Festival entertainment includes a family-friendly interactive activity called Passport to Ireland, and other vendors. Other festival activities include caricatures, a photo booth, and performances of Irish music and dance. Parade and festival are free admission. Food, drink, and souvenirs are for a fee.

April

Ford Mariachi Festival
An official Fiesta event, at the Ford Mariachi Festival you’ll be treated to Mariachi bands and Folklorico dancers as they entertain and perform for you along the River Walk. This is the perfect time to sit outside, sip a margarita (as if you needed an excuse), and enjoy the music as it floats by. Barges will randomly stop and play music. Each group wears a traditional mariachi costume or Folklorico dress. This one is free to attend, find a spot along the River Walk and enjoy!

River Walk Pride Parade
The River Walk’s Pride River Parade is a great visual extension of San Antonio’s strong Pride celebration traditions. Highlighting our city culture of inclusion, we have partnered with key members of the LGBTQ+ community to commemorate our city’s diverse community with a uniquely San Antonio expression of celebration, a River Parade. Free viewing along the entire 2 ½ mile downtown portion of the River Walk.

Bud Light Stars, Stripes, & Lights
One thousand American flags line the banks of the downtown River Walk, trees adorned with red, white, and blue ribbons, and bridges are decorated with patriotic décor and flags. Free to enjoy!

Armed Forces River Parade
The perfect way to spend the 4th of July weekend in San Antonio, this parade is dedicated to the men and women in all branches of the United States Armed Forces and features patriotically-decorated floats. View the parade for free from throughout the downtown section of the River Walk. Break out your red-white-and-blue, and let’s show ‘em we appreciate our nation's freedom made possible through their sacrifices.
