The Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau is a good place to get your bearings, including information on local attractions and maps of the surrounding area. Open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. 222 West Las Colinas Blvd, Suite 1550. Phone: (972) 252-7476.

Heritage House was built in 1912, and is one of Irving's oldest homes. Nearby Heritage Park (Main at Second) features a historic train depot. Tours available daily. 303 South O'Connor Blvd. Phone: (972) 252-3838.

The Irving Arts Center is a splendid complex that includes two galleries and two theater/concert auditoriums for year-round exhibits and live performances, including the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, the Irving Symphonic Band, the Irving Ballet Company, the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving, the Irving Community Theater and the Irving Symphony Orchestra. Las Colinas is a master-planned community and the urban center of Irving. You'll know that you've arrived when you see the magnificent Flower Clock (Highway 114 and O'Connor Blvd.), a working timepiece that is adorned year-round with fresh blooms and greenery.

Just down the street on O'Connor are the famous Mustangs of Las Colinas, a breathtakingly realistic sculpture of nine bronze mustangs galloping across a prairie stream. Stroll across the plaza of Williams Square and visit the Mustang Sculpture Exhibit (West Tower of Williams Square) which includes an informative film about mustangs and the creation of this fabulous sculpture by Robert Glen. Just down the block from the Mustangs is the Mandalay Canal Walk at Las Colinas. Tree-lined, cobblestone walkways and gondolas give this waterfront gem a European ambiance and make it a "must see." Gondolas by reservation only: (972) 506-8037.

Cowboys, equestrians and regular folk alike will enjoy the Las Colinas Equestrian Center and Polo Club. This nationally renowned facility boasts a covered indoor arena, viewing lounge, tack shops, over 100 stalls and two world class polo fields. Riding lessons are available. StarsStuff Pro Shop
The Dr Pepper StarCenter Ice Arena is the only Olympic-sized ice rink in Texas and is the home of the NHL's Dallas Stars. You'll also find public skating, junior hockey and the complete Dallas Stars Pro Shop, StarsStuff. 211 Cowboys Parkway off MacArthur, north of LBJ Freeway. Phone: (214) GO-SKATE.

Texas Stadium was built in 1971 as the permanent home of the NFL's world champion Dallas Cowboys. The arena seats more than 65,000 fans and is used year-round for concerts, high school football playoffs and other special events. Leisure and Recreational Opportunities

With 250 days of sunshine every year and an average temperature of 76 degrees, the weather's fine for playing in Irving. So, whether your idea of a playground is fairway, midway or waterway, Irving is the place to play!

Irving is a golfer's dream, with five 18-hole courses within the city limits, and dozens more within a 20-minute drive. Among Irving's finest courses are the World-Class TPC at Four Seasons Resort & Club (972-717-0700, 4150 N. MacArthur Blvd.) and the adjacent Cottonwood Valley Course; both host the PGA's EDS Byron Nelson Championship each Spring.

Golf enthusiasts will also enjoy nearby public courses, including L. B. Houston Municipal Golf Course (214-670-6322, 11223 Luna Road), Twin Wells Golf Course (972-438-4340, 2000 E. Shady Grove Road), and River Chase Golf Course (972-462-8281, 700 River Chase Drive).

Shopping Opportunities

Irving, Texas is your home base for shopping in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. With dozens and dozens of shopping malls, plus hundreds of boutiques and shops, the Dallas/Fort Worth shopping scene is difficult to rival. Whether you prefer tracking down bargains, reveling in haute couture, or simply shopping until you absolutely have to drop, you'll find a little bit of everything in every direction. Centrally located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Irving provides an easy place to lay your head (and your bags!) after a shopping expedition around the Metroplex.

The Continental Indoor Soccer League's Dallas Sidekicks (214-653-0200) play at Reunion Arena.
