Brownsville, Texas is truly an international city located in a semi-tropical paradise where two cultures meet to create a unique land of exotic sounds, flavors, history and natural beauty found nowhere else in the U.S.

At the extreme southern tip of Texas, Brownsville has great historical significance. Centuries of South Texas history are presented beautifully at two different and interesting Brownsville museums. Brownsville has the unique distinction of being the site of the Palo Alto Battlefield, recently designated a National Historic Site, that marked the start of the war between the United States and Mexico and Palmito Hill, the site of the last battle of the Civil War.
Downtown Brownsville has a great number of historic buildings identified with the Texas Historical Plaques and are part of the Brownsville Heritage Trail. Be sure to walk around historic downtown Brownsville to discover a variety of architectural designs from the various periods, starting in the mid 1850's to the present time modern structures. Brownsville's bustling downtown is a five minute stroll across an international bridge to the city of Matamoros, Mexico, with all its rich colors, historic buildings and plazas of noteworthy architecture, and markets for shopping.
Beach lovers can take their pick of two beautiful Gulf of Mexico beaches, both within 3o minutes driving time. The modern resort of South Padre Island has everything a family needs in the way of lodging and entertainment and the pristine Boca Chica Beach has nothing but miles of beautiful sandy beach.
Brownsville is a birdwatcher's paradise - some say the best birding in the U.S. The convergence of two major flyways afford the birder an abundance of Northern species migrating for the winter. The Audubon Society, owned and operated Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary, is a terrific birding spot. There have been over 500 counted bird species in our area.
The border culture comes alive with festivals and events throughout the year in Brownsville. Charro Days, a spectacular four-day costume fiesta, in late Feb., features parades, carnivals, music, dancing, and foods of this colorful two-nation region. Other special events include the Brownsville International Birding Festival in February, CAF Air Fiesta in March, Shrimp Fiesta in July, and the Latin Jazz Festival in October.
Golfers can choose from 6 different 18 hole golf courses. Each is beautiful and fun to play. All have lots of water, and tough greens that sit among the palms and mesquite trees.
