If you are a history buff or just love to explore, you will enjoy the dozens of ancient petroglyphs, created over 4,000 years ago just 45 miles west of Del Rio at Seminole Canyon State Historical Park. Take a tour offered at the White Shaman Preserve by the Rock Art Foundation. The history of Judge Roy Bean, “The Law West of the Pecos” , the Opera House and the Jersey Lilly Saloon is located 60 miles west of Del Rio in Langtry. The burial site of Judge Roy Bean and his son Sam are on the Whitehead Memorial Museum grounds located on South Main in Del Rio.
Bird watching is a major draw for the Del Rio area, especially in winter, when many species of birds migrate south and settle in Texas and Coahuila. The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Parks & Wildlife, maintains a checklist of the birds in the vicinity; there is also a bird watching tour once a month.
Explore Del Rio at Val Verde Winery, the oldest bonded winery in the state, stroll into the Laughlin Heritage Foundation Museum, Whitehead Memorial Museum or along San Felipe Creek.
