Just west of the Gulf of Mexico, sits the historic town of Kingsville -the birthplace of the American Ranching Industry. Captain Richard E. King developed the area in 1853, and also established the famous King Ranch.
The King Ranch, which remains a working ranch, boasting over 60,000 cattle and 300 quarter horses, offers fabulous opportunities for nature lovers and birders. Spend a day on the Ranch and see a variety of tropical and migratory birds, white tailed deer, and javelinas. Historical tours are offered daily. Birdwatchers find a haven in Kingsville and the surrounding area. Over 450 species have been sighted on the more than one million acres of habitat comprised of shoreline, brush, and arid desert.

The first train came through Kingsville on July 4th, 1904 - the same day the city was chartered. The Depot has recently been restored and features memorabilia and history of the role rail travel played in the making of South Texas. The Depot is now referred to as the 1904 Railroad Museum.
Attractions in Kingsville, in addition to the King Ranch, include the John E. Connor Museum at Texas A&M-Kingsville and The King Ranch Museum.
