Salado

salado

Nestled among the rolling hills of gorgeous Central Texas about an hour north of Austin, Salado is a great choice for romantic weekend getaways and family vacations. Salado, Texas is a creative village full of artists ready to share their knowledge and passion for the things they create. Learn how to blow glass, tour several art galleries, attend tastings at a local craft brewery, enjoy live music and the performing arts, and visit an internationally significant archaeological site.

Salado has a culinary scene likened to that of Texas’ biggest cities. The innovative cuisine at Ramble offers a modern twist on native Texan ingredients, while the Stagecoach Inn offers a step back into history with their decades tested menu. Salado is home to a barbecue joint that hosts some of country music’s biggest names, while just over on Main Street our many cafes and bistros offer a relaxing break. Our one-of-a-kind shops purvey everything from handcrafted jewelry to home accessories and you can fill your walls with unique art with a visit to our many galleries. At the end of the day, hang your hat at one of the many bed and breakfasts and brand-name hotels that provide an experience found only in Salado.

The arts and education have always been a cornerstone of life in Salado. It was the establishment of Salado College, one of the first coeducational institutions of higher education in Texas, in 1860 that led to the town’s foundation and growth. Although a series of fires destroyed the college, the ruins still remain and can be explored. These ruins are one of the many places to experience the history of this part of Central Texas. Visit the Salado Museum and College Park to learn about the region’s past,

While Salado’s history is compelling, that’s not all it has to offer. Take the self-guided walking tour of the Salado Gardens where you’ll see works by local artists in the Sculpture Garden, native Texas plants in the demonstration gardens, and more. Tablerock in Salado hosts musical and religious dramas, concerts, and events throughout the year underneath big skies in its outdoor amphitheater. Be sure to check their schedule when planning your trip to Salado. If you’re here in July or August, don’t miss Salado Legends, a musical that tells the story of American life at the end of the 19th century.

Needless to say, when you visit Salado you’ll find an abundance of art and culture to enjoy. This community of free-spirited creatives shares their love and knowledge of art every chance they get. Whether it’s at the many art galleries in Salado, special events like the annual Art Fair or art demonstrations like the glass blowing classes at Salado Glassworks, you’ll discover art at every turn.

Speaking of discovery, you cannot travel to this part of Texas without visiting the Gault Archaeological Site, one of the largest and most important Clovis sites in North America. Though this site is on private property, you can arrange a tour with the Bell County Museum or the Williamson County Museum.

Unwind from all of your adventures at one of Salado’s bars. There is always something going on at Salado Winery, including monthly art exhibits and live music on the lawn. Sip all of Barrow Brewing Company’s handcrafted beers, all inspired by people in the community and their family members, in their inviting brewery inside a converted pole barn granary. Their beers range from the refreshing Ski Boat Blonde Ale to the rich chocolate flavors of the Tipsy Vicar Stout. With names like these, you know they’ll be good. Not only that, the atmosphere is great and they regularly host live music and food trucks and invite you to bring your dog along for the experience. You’ll find Chupacabra Craft Beer on Main Street, an all-in-one stop with more than 60 Texas craft beers on tap and 200 wines for you to taste.

Meanwhile, the historic Stagecoach Inn & Restaurant is now open again after a multi-year renovation. Check it out for everything that is “new” in this iconic establishment.

Experience all the vibrant colors, beautiful vistas, and delectable flavors of Central Texas when you visit the inviting village of Salado.
