2019 Rains County Eagle Fest. January 19th, 2019 Rains County Elementary 372 FM 3299 Emory, Texas 75440 This festival celebrates Rains County being declared the "Eagle Capital of Texas" by the Texas Legislature in 1995 as part of an effort to protect and preserve the American Bald Eagle. Lake Fork, Lake Tawakoni and the surrounding areas are nesting and feeding grounds for bald eagles and over 260 other varieties and species of wild birds. The highlight of the festival is the bus and barge tours to the lake to see the bald eagles in their natural habitat. There will be guided eagle viewing, bus and barge tours, educational presentations, live bird shows, nature exhibits, food, arts, vendors and crafts. "Last Chance Forever" provides shows of birds in action. “Blackland Prairie Raptor Center” with live birds and exhibits. Both demonstrate the interaction between man and his environment with such birds of prey as owls, vultures, falcons, hawks and eagles. “Mitotiliztli Yaoyollohtli Aztec Dance Company” with authentic and stunning regalia, they dance with ceremonial dedication to this traditional art form. Working with youth and children, the group engages these audiences by bringing them into the dance circle and helping them to learn danza steps. “Wildlife on the Move” are animal presenters, dedicated to helping people of all ages become more knowledgeable about their natural world.
