New Colobus Monkey Exhibit: Opening Summer 2019

Jun 01, 2019 - Aug 31, 2019

Colobus Monkey Facts! 1.The name “Colobus” is derived from the Greek word for “mutilated,” because unlike other monkeys, colobus monkeys do not have thumbs. 2.Colobus monkeys complex stomachs enable them to digest mature or toxic foliage that other monkeys cannot. 3.Colobus babies are born completely white. They don’t start developing their distinguished black and white coat until several weeks after birth. When jumping from tree to tree, these monkeys can leap a distance of more than 19-7 feet! 4.Colobus troops consist of multi-female families that practice allomothering. This means that all females in the troop will take turns caring for the young.
