From Scratch: Art Applied (Ages 11-14)

Oct 08, 2020 - Oct 29, 2020

Work with our From Scratch Teaching Artist and local furniture makers and designers to explore the intersections of artwork and functionality! Students in this course will use recycled newspaper, cardboard, and other familiar materials to design and build their own piece of furniture for their rooms and living spaces. A perfect course for creative kids with an engineering mindset. Enrollment includes a supply kit with materials which you can pick up from the museum, and two trips to the Supplibrary at UMLAUF to pick up objects that could enhance your project. Trips to the Supplibrary also give students time to personally check-in with the Teaching Artist about their project! About From Scratch From Scratch is a month-long webinar series for students exploring sculpture from the ground up! In this afterschool series, classroom pods, homeschoolers, and individual learners will work alongside an UMLAUF Teaching Artist on a monthly theme that integrates traditional 3D art forms with experiments in 21st Century STEAM learning. Along the way, students will also meet Austin-based makers who are specialists within that theme!
