Maydelle Turntable Train Run

May 06, 2021

Texas State Railroad offers school groups a fun and educational outing on short runs from Palestine to the Maydelle turntable. Trains depart at 11:00 a.m. on THURSDAY'S May 6 & 13 . This rare example of railroad technology demonstrates how a steam locomotive was turned around, using only compressed air, over 130 years ago. Acquired by the Texas State Railroad in 1981, the turntable was originally built in the late 1890s by the St. Louis and San Francisco (Frisco) Railroad located in Paris, Texas. Starting in 1902, it served a six-stall roundhouse at their Paris rail yard. Children’s fares start at $10. Reservations and pre-ordered lunches for this entertaining but all-the-while educational experience can be booked online. Or you can call 855-632-7729 to speak with one of our guest specialists to secure a “large” group reservation
