Break out your best western wear and cheers to a good time at TEXFest, a free celebration of Texas Independence Day, featuring craft beer, good food, and local artists performing Texas music. The ninth annual event takes place Saturday, March 2 from 3-9 p.m. in Historic Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street). Come for the beer but stay for the music. Singer Ralyn Gayle, with her unique style of country charm and pink sparkle, will warm up the crowd with David Cacy from 3-4 p.m. From 4:30-5:30 p.m., King George, who brings the look and feel of George Strait in his heyday, from the trademark Stetson hat to the boots and creased Wranglers, will make the crowd want to give it all tonight. Tejano ensemble Conjunto Baraja De Oro will turn up the heat from 6-7:15 p.m. with their foot-stomping, heel-tapping polka, Latin American cumbia, traditional ranchera, and Mexican Huapango families of musical styles, and will set the stage for headliner Clayton Mullen, performing In addition to great music, TEXFest offers a variety of food options, as well as dozens of craft beer offerings from local breweries. Custom TEXFest beer glasses will be on sale, so everyone of age can enjoy responsibly and in style within the event’s beer garden, complete with starry lights, community seating, a variety of yard games, crafts, Texas trivia, and some of the best barbecue in Texas. Guests will get the chance to put their cowboy skills to the test by taking a rowdy ride on a rockin’ mechanical bull. Make sure to capture the memories of the celebration by taking a photo with a live longhorn or by visiting the giant Texas flag photo station, the Texas-shaped statue, or stepping inside a photo booth. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the event, which has drawn thousands to Historic Downtown Carrollton over the past eight years.
