Music Under the Star: Los Texmaniacs with Chayito Champion and Keli Rosa Cabunoc

Jul 19, 2024

Join us in the Capitol Mall Amphitheater to hear lively performances from Chayito Champion and Keli Rosa Cabunoc and headliners Los Texmaniacs. Bring the whole family, camp chairs, and blankets to enjoy an incredible lineup of Texas artists. Food and drinks are available for purchase at all Music Under the Star concerts. Outside food and drinks are not permitted at this event. $15 paid parking is available in the Bullock Museum’s underground garage. The evening opens at 6 p.m. with Chayito Champion and Keli Rosa Cabunoc, two San Antonio-based artists who joined forces in the Texas Folklife Apprenticeship Program in 2023. Chayito is an acclaimed, worldwide performer as a Flamenco dancer. Keli Rosa Cabunoc is a cultural worker, scholar, and touring musician who has played Son Jarocho, a traditional music from Veracruz, Mexico, for more than 20 years. This unique pairing brings together two musical and cultural worlds that exist within Chicano and Tejano culture. Max Baca and Los Texmaniacs are the past, present, and future of Conjunto music. Combine Tex-Mex Conjunto, Texas rock, blues, and R&B riffs, and you’ve got GRAMMY® award-winning Los Texmaniacs groove. Los Texmaniacs are the new worldwide kings of Texas Roots music, feeding the masses with only the best in musical fare, from a wide-ranging experience touring and recording with Flaco Jimenez of Texas Tornados fame, Los Super Seven, and even the Rolling Stones. While Max Baca has individually participated in eleven GRAMMY award-winning projects, the band themselves won their first GRAMMY in 2010 and a nomination for their last Smithsonian Folkways recording in 2019, "Borders y Bailes" featuring Lyle Lovett and Rick Trevino.
