80th Anniversary Event: Black Dragon Tribute
Jun 14, 2025
June 14 | 10:00 AM | Memorial Courtyard
As part of our 80th anniversary programming, the National Museum of the Pacific War will host a special plaque dedication honoring several individuals and units featured in Steven D. McCloud’s book Black Dragon. This moving ceremony will recognize the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of those who served in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
Plaques will be dedicated to:
Jane Kendeigh, the first Navy flight nurse to land on an active battlefield in the Pacific
Simms and Stewart, whose stories exemplify the bravery and bond shared among servicemembers
2-V-23, the Marine rifle company known as Fox Company, whose journey is at the heart of Black Dragon
Author Steve McCloud will be in attendance to share reflections on the legacy of these individuals and the powerful stories uncovered through his extensive interviews and research.
Jane Kendeigh’s daughter and members of the Stewart and Simms families will also be present to honor their loved ones. This event will take place in the Museum’s Memorial Courtyard and is free and open to the public.
