80th Anniversary Event: Paper Lanterns - A Documentary Screening

Aug 02, 2025

Join us for a screening of the documentary Paper Lanterns, directed by Barry Frechette and Max Esposito, which tells the inspiring story of Shigeaki Mori, a hibakusha (A-bomb survivor) who dedicated his life to uncovering the fates of American prisoners of war lost in the Hiroshima bombing. On August 6, 1945, when the atomic bomb exploded over Hiroshima, it claimed an estimated 140,000 lives. Among them were 12 American POWs, held at the Hiroshima Military Police Headquarters since their capture on July 28. For decades, their families remained in the dark about their fate. Determined to bring them recognition, Mr. Mori worked tirelessly to ensure their names were included in the Hiroshima Peace Museum and that their relatives finally learned the truth. Paper Lanterns documents his incredible journey and unwavering dedication to remembrance. The film will be screened 2 times. Once at 10AM and once at 1PM.
