Catching the Light: Crowns and Rhinestones of Texas Festivals Talk
May 03, 2026
Join us for an engaging talk with author, cultural anthropologist, and noted Fiesta historian Dr. Michaele Thurgood Haynes as she explores San Antonio Fiesta’s Order of the Alamo coronation with its elaborate gowns and trains. Texas festivals often include royal figures, primarily queens, whose robes feature symbols of the particular festival and intricate designs traced in crystals and jewels. Dr. Haynes will trace this history into festivals beyond Fiesta, like Corpus Christi’s Buccaneer Days and the Texas Rose Festival in Tyler.
