Texas State Parks
Everything You Love About Texas
Texas is legendary, and the best way to experience the beauty, history, and excitement of Texas is in a Texas State Park.
There are more than 90 state parks in every corner of Texas waiting to give you a new story to tell. Will your story include gasping at the majesty of Palo Duro Canyon, or marveling over the towering pines of Tyler State Park? Or maybe tubing the Frio River at Garner, casting a line at Inks Lake, or surfing the dunes at Monahans Sandhills? Is it standing where Texas Independence was won at San Jacinto? Whatever it is you love: gulf coast beaches, hill country views, vibrant forests, prairies and plains, lakes and rivers, or desert mountain mesas, there’s a perfect State Park for you.
There are opportunities for every type of adventure seeker. Whether you like to hike, mountain bike, fish, swim, canoe, relax around the campfire, experience the history of Texas, or just watch the birds, you can find something for you at a Texas state park.
Learn new skills, or sharpen your existing ones, with friendly Texas State Park staff who offer a variety of educational programs. Programs include teaching families the essentials for a weekend camping trip, guided hikes, canoeing trips, birding tours, or interpretive events that bring to life the historic moments that helped create Texas.
State Parks offer great facilities and amenities to suit any level of outdoor experience. From primitive backcountry and tent camping sites, to full hookup camping sites for RV’s, and even shelters, cabins, and resort lodges. Other available facilities include group recreation halls, historic Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) structures, nature centers, and swimming pools. Some of the amenities you’ll find at many state parks include park stores for shopping, boat ramps for getting out on the water, and a diverse network of trails that include hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian uses which are perfect for exploring. Many parks offer a variety of equipment rentals such as paddle boats, canoes, kayaks and mountain bikes.
