World-Class Birding Destinations

One of the crown jewels of Aransas Pathways is the Linda S. Castro Nature Sanctuary, located on Highway 35 North with a large concrete slab viewing area and benches for resting that overlooks native plants and a pond. This premier birding site features beautiful, wooded trails and several bird drips.

Connie Hagar Cottage Sanctuary offers a beautiful environment and calming sounds of birds. The sanctuary honors Connie Hagar, known as the “Bird Lady of Rockport,” who was instrumental in documenting local bird migration patterns and became the first woman in Texas to achieve recognition as an avid birder.

Spring Migration Spectacular Central Flyway Migration Rockport sits along the Central Flyway, one of North America’s major migratory routes, making it an exceptional destination for witnessing one of nature’s most remarkable phenomena. During spring migration, the area can attract 200 species in a single day, creating a birding spectacle that draws enthusiasts from around the world. History Center for Aransas County

One of the unique cultural gems within the Aransas Pathways network is the History Center for Aransas County. The Center showcases local heritage through outdoor and indoor exhibits that tell the stories of the real people of Aransas County. The Bruhl-Paul-Johnson house is a Queen Anne-Victorian cottage that serves as the centerpiece of this historic site. The History Center celebrates Aransas County heritage with exhibits and programs, collects artifacts and documents important to local history.
