Oakwood Cemetery
The Oakwood Cemetery is the final resting place of Texas legends, including none other than Sam Houston himself. Houston’s grave is marked by a monument sculpted in 1911 by famed artist Pompeo Coppini, who also did the Alamo Cenotaph in San Antonio. Along with Houston, other notable Texans buried at the cemetery include Joshua Houston (Houston’s slave who became a successful businessman) and Henderson King Yoakum (author of the first comprehensive history of Texas in 1855).

Sam Houston Memorial Museum
Explore Sam Houston’s homestead and get to know what life was like in Texas’ early years at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum. Historical buildings stand throughout the serene 15-acre complex, which is also home to a museum store full of souvenirs and other gifts.
