Play in Lake Ray Hubbard
Rockwall’s big neighbor to the west is certainly a sight to behold. Lake Ray Hubbard is 22,000 acres of shimmering blue water surrounded by lush green parks. Its scenic nature is only part of its charm, however. That’s because Lake Ray Hubbard is a massive outdoor playground in addition to being a visual treat. It’s here that you’ll find some of the best catfish and bass fishing in North Texas, and the lake’s calm waters provide the ideal conditions for kayakers and paddle boarders.
The parks that encircle the lake provide plenty of adventures of their own. Work up a sweat on Pecan Grove Park’s one mile of hiking and biking trails, visit the marina and restaurants in Elgin B. Robertson Park, or swim at the beach in Garland’s Windsurf Bay Park. That’s just a sample of what you can do during a day at the lake. To get the full picture, you’ll have to experience Lake Ray Hubbard for yourself.
Enjoy Local Craft Beer and Wine
Delicious craft beer or heavenly wine; how do you choose? In Rockwall, you don’t have to. The downtown area is a short 10 minute drive from a craft brewery and a local winery and vineyard, so it’s easy to visit both places. To sample the complex flavors of a vanilla porter or an IPA, Woodcreek Brewing Company is for you. The brewery, established in 2014, welcomes beer lovers to its taproom Thursday through Sunday to try its extensive range of brews. To get the full brewery experience, and a behind the scenes look at what goes into the beer making process, go on one of the two tours offered Saturday afternoons.
Does a glass of cabernet sauvignon sound more appealing to you than a pint of ale? Then giddy on up to San Martino Winery & Vineyards, a well-renowned winery that looks like it would be right at home in the Italian countryside. Visit the winery’s tasting room and try the delicious reds, whites, and sweet wines; or kick your feet up and unwind on the outdoor patio. For the ultimate winery experience, reserve your place in one of the winery’s special dinner events that typically combine San Martino’s wares with meals made from fresh local ingredients.
Regardless of whether you’re a beer or a wine person, you’ll find something to love in Rockwall.
