Seguin

With its charming small-town energy, unique shops and restaurants, stunning historic mansions, and plenty of adventures waiting around every corner, Seguin has everything you need for a spectacular Texas getaway.

Take a leisurely stroll through the picturesque historic downtown, relax under the shade of a riverside pecan tree, and savor a slower pace of life. Nestled on the banks of the Guadalupe River just 45 minutes east of San Antonio, Seguin known as the “Pecan Capital of Texas” offers something for everyone, plus a few delightful surprises..

Why the “Pecan Capital of Texas”? Pecan trees have been part of the landscape since before Seguin was founded in 1838. In the heart of downtown, the old Guadalupe County Courthouse is home to one of the town’s most famous roadside attractions: the World’s Largest Pecan. If your visit coincides with the last weekend in October, don’t miss the Pecan Fest Heritage Days, a celebration full of family fun, food, and music.

Seguin isn’t just about pecans, though nature lovers will feel right at home here. Max Starcke Park is a hub for outdoor adventure, featuring a scenic 18-hole public golf course, a disc golf course, a wave pool, and kayaking trails along the Guadalupe River.

Downtown Seguin is perfect for wandering and window shopping. Pause to enjoy a locally brewed pint at Seguin Brewing Company or venture to the rolling vineyards of Blue Lotus Winery and Texas Mead Works, where you can sip Texas-grown wines or sample a variety of meads.

History buffs will find plenty to explore as well. Begin at the Seguin-Guadalupe County Heritage Museum, then step back in time at the 1856 Sebastopol House to learn about the Wilson Potters, formerly enslaved Texans who created one of the state’s first Black-owned businesses. For those who enjoy a touch of the mysterious, the Haunted Magnolia Hotel offers ghost tours and a glimpse into the town’s spookier side. Finally, pay respects at the Juan Seguin burial site, honoring the Texas Revolution hero for whom the town is named.

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful small-town retreat, an active weekend outdoors, or a dive into Texas history, Seguin delivers it all with charm, warmth, and a few delightful surprises along the way.
