Fredericksburg Food and Wine Fest

Fredericksburg Food & Wine Fest

October 26 - 28, 2017

Although it’s true that everything is bigger in Texas, folks who aren’t from the Lone Star State sometimes fail to grasp is that our “bigness” means we’ve got room for all kinds of tastes and styles. Cowboy boots and oil derricks are just two of the many things that represent the great state of Texas. For instance, the Lone Star State is home to a bustling wine industry that is fast becoming one of the most dynamic in the country. Experience this side of Texas at the Fredericksburg Food & Wine Festival, a celebration of Texas spirits and cuisine held in heart of the beautiful Hill Country.

On a cool fall day in late October, you’ll stroll through gorgeous downtown Fredericksburg as you sample a full spectrum of reds and whites from award-winning wineries in Texas. No less than 25 wine producers will be on hand, including frequent award-winners like Messina Hof, Llano Estacado, Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards, and Becker Vineyards. Are you more of a brew guy or gal? Texas has a fast-growing craft beer industry as well, and you can try some of the best ales and lagers during the festival. Some of the top brewers in the state, including Spoetzel Brewery, Pedernales Brewing Company, St. Arnold’s Brewery, and Real Ale Brewing, have been showcased in the past.

Once you’ve got your beverage in hand, you’ll need some food to go with it. More than 30 food vendors and concessionaires will be serving up gyros, cheesesteaks, fries, funnel cakes, and other grub, as well as specialty foods and items for sample or purchase. You’ll see everything from natural nut butter and chocolate desserts to homemade oils, salsas, jams, and jellies. For a truly gourmet meal or a chance to improve your culinary skills, purchase a ticket to an exclusive event like a cooking class or a meet-and-greet with a top-class chef.

If you want to make it a full weekend of Texas food and wine, check out the other special events that are part of the festival. The party gets underway on Thursday night with GO TEXAN! at Messina Hof, an evening of farm-to-table food paired with award-winning wines. On Friday night, head to Wildseed Farms on the outskirts of Fredericksburg for the Friday Celebration. Although these events are not included with general admission to the festival, you won’t need a separate ticket to enjoy the great entertainment on Saturday. Live music will be provided by Reggae group Mau Mau Chaplains, blues and R&B jammers The Frank Gomez Band, Latin dance band El Tule, and solo artist Josh Dodds. A silent auction and “Gargantuan Great Grape Toss” round out the festivities.

It all happens at the Marktplatz in lovely downtown Fredericksburg. Be there October 22 and raise a glass to the bold flavors of Texas!
