14th Annual Viva Big Bend
July 23 - 27, 2025
Scores of gifted musicians are heading to Far West Texas for the annual Viva Big Bend. They’ll descend upon more than a dozen venues in six different communities. Just as the British Invasion ushered rock and pop music into the U.S. in 1964, the influx of 50 bands in Big Bend Country will introduce concertgoers to talent from across the state and beyond. And they’ll electrify crowds with country, Tejano, roots rock, Latin, blues, and folk music all week long.
If this is your first time attending, prepare to be blown away by the possibilities. The music festival includes over 65 shows. From its early years, Viva Big Bend has grown to include the towns of Alpine, Fort Davis, Marathon, Marfa, Presidio, and Terlingua. Each community has its own character and charm, so there’s no better place to host this legendary five-day music festival.
Pull up your lawn chair, sit back, and enjoy soulful blues or folk ballads played by bands on the outdoor stages at Fort Davis or on Murphy Street in Alpine. Make your way to Terlingua’s historic Starlight Theater where the twang of an electric guitar joins a long lineage of country music performances in the intimate space. Whether a Tejano concert with crisp, brassy trumpet notes or a roots rock show resonate with you, Viva Big Bend has a band in its lineup and a venue that sets the tone. Distillery tasting rooms and restaurants, shady patios, and rustic outdoor watering holes await. You can even cozy up to the bonfire as you listen to tunes at Railroad Blues in Alpine.
A bonfire in Texas . . . in July??? Yep. Believe it or not, most of these communities are at a higher elevation than the rest of Texas. You can expect temperatures to be 8 to 10 degrees cooler than in Austin. Daytime temps average in the high 80s and evening temps in the low 60s.
The epic music festival and perfect weather give you two dandy reasons to head to Big Bend Country this July. But wait, there’s more! Museums, funky art installations, and the mysterious Marfa lights await, as well as the unspoiled landscape of Big Bend National Park and heavenly views at McDonald Observatory.
If this is your first visit to Viva Big Bend and Far West Texas, you’ll find this is just the tip of the entertainment and activity iceberg. You’ll soon join those in the know who make an annual pilgrimage to enjoy great music and explore the area. To plan your trip and to purchase tickets, head over to Viva Big Bend’s official website.
