Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Prices & Hours
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston contains one of the largest collections of art in the United States, with everything from Islamic sculptures to paintings by Cezanne and Van Gogh. The main campus stretches out across 14 acres of Houston’s legendary Museum District, and that’s not even counting the two house museums located a short drive away in the River Oaks neighborhood, Bayou Bend and Rienzi.
At Bayou Bend, you’ll walk through the former estate of Ima Hogg, a Texas philanthropist from the early 20th century, which now houses a mind-boggling collection of American decorative arts—think furniture, silver, and ceramics. At Rienzi, you’ll find a more European experience, walking through a John Staub-designed home from the 1950s filled with the finest porcelain, paintings, and furnishings from the Old World. Each has an atmosphere that must be felt for oneself. It’s like stepping into an old novel of romance and intrigue (just with more tour guides and people in Astros hats).
Remember that admission to all locations is free for kids under 12 and the main campus is free for all on Thursdays. For general ticket prices, here’s what you need to know before you go:
