Attractions in Smithville

Though it be but small, Smithville is fierce with attractions. And they’re the kind you’re just simply not going to find in the big city: historic parks that still have that old-world style, homespun restaurants, a state park like no other in the Lost Pines, and the lingering presence of Hollywood.

About an hour from Austin and the Texas Hill Country at large, a long weekend in Smithville is an easy trip worth its weight in brisket.

Buescher State Park

Just northwest of town, Buescher State Park spans 1,100 acres of the Lost Pines, an isolated stand of loblolly pines that grow nowhere else that far west in Texas. The park offers 7.5 miles of hiking trails, a stocked fishing lake (catfish, bass, crappie, rainbow trout), non-motorized boating, cabins, and a 100-person recreation hall available to rent.
