Surfside Marathon

Tie on your running shoes and get ready for a one-of-a-kind marathon. Whether you choose the full or half marathon, your feet will never hit pavement as both courses follow the beautiful stretch of sand between Surfside Beach and San Luis Pass. The marathon is held in early February, and registration is available on the event’s website.

Texas Joy Ride & Rod Run

Migration Celebration

Birding season in the Brazosport Area truly kicks off each spring, when thousands of migratory birds pass through the region. Celebrate the season at Migration Celebration, featuring guided refuge tours led by expert naturalists, as well as archery, fishing, wildlife exhibits, and other family-friendly activities for children. Most activities take place at the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge.

The Great Texas Mosquito Festival

With tons of live music, all the sights and sounds of the carnival, a barbecue and fajita cook-off, and a washer pitching tournament, it may be better to ask what isn't going on at The Great Texas Mosquito Festival. Taking place in Clute over three days in late July, this is one of the biggest (and quirkiest) events in Texas.

Fishing Fiesta

Grab your fishing rods and head to Freeport for the Fishing Fiesta. Centered around one of the Gulf Coast's largest fishing tournaments, the event also features a carnival, barbecue cook-off, coastal expo, live entertainment, arts and crafts, and much more. Young anglers can even compete in a children's fishing tournament, with winners taking home trophies and new rods and reels.

Summertime Blues Festival

For three days in early September, some of the hottest blues bands around head to Freeport for the Summertime Blues Festival. Along with fantastic live music, enjoy a watermelon seed-spitting contest, car show, biker games, facial hair contest, arm wrestling competition, and other family-friendly entertainment.
