Top 3 Fall Events in Tyler, TX You Don’t Want to Miss

by Hunter Lanier

It’s impossible to deny that of all the seasons, there’s something special about fall. Maybe it’s the marathon of holidays, maybe it’s the cool weather, or maybe it’s Tyler’s impeccable lineup of events and festivals.

That’s right. Tyler, TX has quietly assembled one of the state's most impressive lineups of fall events. While other cities might have one signature festival, Tyler decided to go all out with three distinct celebrations that showcase everything from agricultural heritage to aviation excellence.

Don’t believe us? Read on, ye of little faith, and jump into our article like it’s a crunchy pile of autumn leaves!

All’s Fair at the East Texas State Fair

We’re not saying the East Texas State Fair is the most fun festival in Texas—but we’re not not saying that either. Running for several days in late September, this fair represents everything special about Texas community.

When you think of a fair, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Fair food? Yeah, us too. What makes the East Texas State Fair special in this regard is that the vendors have been in the fair food game for decades. These aren’t just teenagers frying dough. Whether you’re chowing down on corn dogs or turkey legs, or you’ve got one for each hand, this is fair food taken seriously. In fact, there’s an entire day dedicated to it: Fair Food Friday!

The livestock competitions showcase the agricultural heritage that built this region of Texas. You’ll be able to watch bareback riding, breakaway roping, bull riding, and much more. If you’d like to do a little riding yourself on something that doesn’t have big, scary horns, the fair has tons of classic carnival rides.

Large gathering of people at the Rose Festival

Texas Rose Festival: More Than Just Pretty Flowers

Tyler processes more roses than anywhere else in the entire country. Now, you may be wondering: what do they do with all those roses? They host a festival, of course! Oh, you already know that? You read the subhead? Can’t pull a fast one on you!

Running through October, the Texas Rose Festival transforms Tyler into something that makes all the nearby cities rosy red with jealousy. This isn't just people wandering around looking at flowers—though the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden during peak bloom is legitimately spectacular. This is a full-scale community celebration with parades, live music, arts and crafts vendors, and food that goes well beyond the standard festival fare.

The festival's longevity—it's been running for decades—speaks to its authenticity. This is a genuine celebration of something that matters to the community. The rose-related activities range from educational to purely entertaining. Stopping to smell the roses has never been more fun!

Rose City Airfest: Highway to the Fun Zone

The Rose City Airfest proves that Tyler knows how to diversify its entertainment portfolio. While most cities would be content with one signature fall event, Tyler decided to add an airshow to the mix because they apparently believe in giving people too many good reasons to visit. A bold vision, to be sure.

This isn't your typical airshow with jets flying in formation while someone plays the Top Gun soundtrack over the loudspeaker. The Rose City Airfest celebrates all aspects of aviation, from vintage warbirds that survived actual combat to modern aircraft that look like they just flew in from the future.

On the ground, you’ll find opportunities to get up close with aircraft that would normally just be specks in the sky. Kids can climb into cockpits, ask pilots questions, and plant those seeds for a future in aviation!

Rose City Airfest exudes a love for the art of flying—a love that’s contagious to all who attend. Before you come, you may have a hard time understanding why someone would risk their lives in one of those planes, but on the way home, it just might make a little more sense.
