Play at Lake Brownwood

Located about 25 miles northwest of Early, the park provides a laid-back escape where you can swim and go boating in the summer and camp, hike, bike, and fish throughout the year. Explore the Pecan Bayou Paddling Trail

Run your hands through the still waters of Pecan Bayou as you paddle past 100-year-old pecan trees on the Pecan Bayou Paddling Trail. A 7.2-mile trail that can be paddled in either direction, the easy-to-traverse waterway afford a peaceful escape to Texas’ wild side. Keep a keen eye out and you just might see great horned, eastern screech, or barred owls, as well as kingfishers, herons, and woodpeckers. If you’re in the mood for some fishing, bring your rod and tackle box and cast a line for bass, brim, catfish, and crappie. Although you could do the entire trail in as many as three hours, your best chance for enjoying a float on the bayou is to take it easy. After all, who knows what you’ll see when you slow down and let the world pass you by.
