Events in The Colony

The Colony is home to an array of annual events from family-friendly festivals to competitive races and a variety of holiday-themed gatherings sure to keep you entertained. Located just north of Dallas, The Colony is nicknamed “The City by the Lake” because of its 23 miles of shoreline along the eastern edge of Lewisville Lake. Plan your trip to The Colony to coincide with one of the city’s signature events. Relax with live performances and fireworks at “Liberty By The Lake” in July, or cheer on your child at “Coach Cox’s Kids Race by the Lake” in April. Dress in your best superhero or villain costumes and enjoy a full night of fun at the “Family Fright Fest” Halloween festival in October. Honor our nation’s veterans at the “American Heroes: A Salute to Veterans” festival in November and watch Santa flip on “The Colony Christmas Spectacular” light show at “Holiday In The Park.” In addition to annual festivities, the city is home to a wide variety of free and paid weekly programming and events like concerts at local music venues and outdoor movie screenings, perfect for a weekend getaway.

Luck of the Irish Triathlon

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an unforgettable full triathlon in The Colony. Push yourself to the limits on land with the run-bike-run event or swim, bike, and run in the full triathlon or super sprint. Hosted by PlayTri, the official triathlon store of Ironman.

Spring Eggstravaganza

Get your Easter basket ready for The Colony’s signature spring event. The Spring Eggstravaganza features a classic egg hunt for children 18 months to nine years old. While there, get your family photo with Peter Rabbit.

Coach Cox's Kids Race by the Lake

Children ages five to nine compete in a half-mile race, and those 10 to 11 years old compete in a mile-long race at the annual Kids Race by the Lake. All participants will receive a goody bag, T-shirt, and participation ribbon in this annual spring event that gives kids a “running start.”

Up, Up & Away! Festival of Flight

Marvel at the many forms of flight at Up, Up & Away! Festival of Flight, an afternoon filled with all kinds of winged fun including birding demonstrations, kite flying, and paper airplane contests. Bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy the live music, food, and outdoor entertainment.

Liberty By The Lake

Celebrate Independence Day with a full day of excitement at Liberty By The Lake in The Colony. A 5K race kicks the day off, followed by live performances. Later in the day, browse the Freedom Business Expo and enjoy festive foods, live music, and an outstanding firework finale. Bring the entire family to this free all-ages event.

Bow-Wow Luau

Jump in the water with your favorite four-pawed friend at the annual Bow-Wow Luau held at Hawaiian Waters Waterpark, an event that includes competitive doggie games, contests, and swims. Splash around in the wave pool or chill on the lazy river. Proceeds will benefit The Colony Animal Shelter Injured Animal Fund.

Family Fright Fest

The annual Family Fright Fest Halloween festival is hands-down one of the spookiest — and most fun — Halloween events in The Colony. Enjoy hayrides, costume and scream contests, games, trick-or-treating at booths, crafts, and so much more. All activities are FREE to participate.

American Heroes Festival: A Salute to Veterans

Honor veterans and the brave men and women currently serving our country at the annual American Heroes Festival. This free celebration kicks off with a full day of live music, carnival rides, and fair food. The family fun continues with patriotic ceremonies, Car, Truck & Bike Show, silent auction, and a spectacular drone show finale.

Holiday in the Park

Begin the holiday season at Holiday in the Park where you can take photos with Santa, sing festive songs, watch the Parade of Lights, play carnival games, and participate in the holiday craft station and baking contest. This event also kicks off The Colony Christmas Spectacular, a stunning light and music show that can be seen every evening until January.
